T time

The 2011 Poway Little League baseball season has officially begun, and our boys are off to a great start! Anderson is playing T-ball for the Giants, and Harrison is a Rockie on the Rookie league. Nearly everything about Anderson's experience is hilarious. During practices, the kids fill their gloves with dirt, draw lines in the sand with the bats and play with their water bottles. AJ loves the batting helmets; he wears one for the entire practice. If I lose track of him, I just look out for the little guy in a big red helmet. He's all about the gear. His first game was a comedy act as well. The coach put him on the pitcher's mound, but he looked more like the catcher. I don't know why, but he insisted on squatting like the catcher. The coaches kept telling him to stand up and get ready, but there he sat. Finally, one of the coaches walked out to the mound and physically picked him up. He stood for a little while, and then reclaimed his stance. The coach gave up and joined him. The coaches are all so good with kids, and very patient. I don't know if AJ was trying to send a message, but the next game, he was selected to play catcher. Again, he was digging the gear. He's such a ham too. When he spots me with the camera, he turns to face me with a big smile. Harrison, on the other hand, is all business. He's really getting to be a good ball player, and he looks so grown up in his uniform. His favorite part of the game seems to be running the bases. Once he gets a hit, his game face is on. He's so serious and focused, and when he gets to run, he sprints. It's really fun to watch him make it to home base; he pumps his fist and yells, "yes!" It's so cute. His enthusiasm isn't wasted on his fan club. Karrington and Anderson get just as excited to see their big brother do well, and the fact that his field is next to the snack shack doesn't hurt. Harrison has also been taking art classes after school. He is creating incredible pictures, and he likes to 'teach' the rest of us how to draw. He's led us in many impromptu art lessons. We have quite a gallery at our house now. We also celebrated a birthday! Jay and I enjoyed a nice evening of dinner on the coast followed with wine by an outdoor fire. You cannot beat the wine and seafood here! D-lish! The kids insisted we celebrate Daddy's birthday at their new favorite eatery, the Islands, so we completed the weekend with burgers and brownies. And finally, we are making progress with potty training! AJ has become quite an inspiration. When Anderson heads to the bathroom, he'll occasionally ask Karrington if she needs to go. Most of the time, she'll join him, and the two take care of business together. I caught them reading the ads the other day. ? They are quite a pair!
